Very serious the whole game, the 76ers changed the game face during the 3rd quarter to take the lead and keep it until the final whistle.
Before that, the two teams were going pound for pound. Playing for the second time without Michael Carter-Williams (toe injury), the 76ers could rely on Robert Covington (22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) and Hollis Thompson, very consistent in the last few games (18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assists). After a balanced first quarter (24-23 for Chartotte), the Hornets accelerate in the second quarter to reach the 16 points-lead mark (46-30). Fortunately the 76ers won’t break and stay together until they go for a 12-2 run right before half time, allowing them to come back to a short 6 points behind at 48-42 going to the locker room.
In the second half, the 76ers are going to take the lead no later than in the 3rd quarter. On a layup by Luc Mbah a Moute they will pass the Hornets (53-52) and never lose their advantage. They put a 14-5 which allows them to win the quarter 28-13 and to be comfortable entering the fourth with a 9 point lead d’avance (70-61). In the last act, the two teams neutralize themselves (19-20). The Charlotte Hornets won’t come back closer to a deficit of 5 points and will let the 76ers notch their 12th win of the season (for 41 losses). Luc Mbah a Moute had another good performance with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.
